Environmental technology assessment of natural gas compared to biogas
نویسنده
چکیده
1.1 Historical background In a historical perspective, biogas has been produced since the second half of the 19th century. India and China were among the pioneering countries, where biogas produced from manure and kitchen waste for long time has been used as a fuel for gas cookers and lamps. In Sweden, biogas has been produced at municipal waste water treatment plants since the 1960’s. The primary incentive was to reduce sludge volumes. However, the oil crises of the 1970’s rang alarm bells, leading to research and development of biogas techniques, and construction of new plants in order to reduce environmental problems and dependency on oil. Estimation and Modeling of Biogas Production in Municipal Landfill
The municipal solid waste in Landfill is transformed into landfill gas during a biochemical conversion process called bio-degradation. Gas release from landfills has potentially different environmental effects; therefore, assessing and forecasting the rate of production and release of gas from landfill sites is important for designing these sites and for the successful exploitation of gases as ...
متن کاملLCA of Biogas Through Anaerobic Digestion from the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW) Compared to Incineration of the Waste
Production of biogas through anaerobic digestion (AD) from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) was compared to incineration of the waste. At the moment, almost all of the OFMSW in Singapore is incinerated. Three different scales of biogas plants were compared to incineration: one large-scale biogas plant that can treat half of all OFMSW in Singapore; one medium-scale biogas pl...
متن کاملEnvironmental-economic evaluation of sugar cane bagasse gasification power plants versus combined-cycle gas power plants
Approximately 2.4 million tons of bagasse are produced each year in Iran, most of which are currently treated as waste adding to serious environmental concerns. Application of bagasse for energy production is a sustainable solution to supply the required energy within the sugar refineries and export the surplus electricity to the grid. Currently, the energy demand in Iranian sugar mills is main...
متن کاملBiogas generation from floral waste using different techniques
There is a great need to implement low-cost and user-friendly methods for further propagation of biogas technology in India. Environment unfriendly disposal of floral waste causes serious environmental pollution. Literature shows a limited research work regarding the anaerobic digestion of floral waste for biogas generation. The present experimental work aims to propagate floral waste as a sus...
متن کاملEstimation and Modeling of Biogas Production in Rural Small Landfills (Case Study: Chaharmahaal and Bakhtiari and Yazd Rural Areas)
One of the main factors contributing to greenhouse gas emissions in the environment is the production of pollutant gases in landfills. Collecting the landfill gases (LFG) effectively reduces the emission of gasses from the landfill site. A precise collection system for LFG can create the potential for energy generation in addition to emissions reduction. However, in Iran, the implementation of ...
